Simon Burt Photography

It was my dad’s fault really.

I would have been about 8 or 9 when he presented me with a ‘Box Brownie’ camera, an ancient bit of kit even then. It didn’t take long for me to became obsessed. There was always a better photo to be taken; a moment to be captured or created. Looking back, I don’t think either of us had a clue, as I charged off to Boots to get my first snaps developed, that I was beginning the journey of a lifetime.

During the years that followed, although the Box Brownie was replaced with other cameras, my enthusiasm for capturing that elusive ‘perfect’ shot never waned. When it comes to photography, I never stop learning.

After serving a decade as a Royal Marine, I’ve been blessed with a career where no two days are ever the same. From my time as a roving snapper with the Evening Herald in Plymouth, to my years at the Apex News and Pictures agency as a staff photographer, the only constant has been the trusty camera at my side. I’ve covered it all, from news and features (for national papers and magazines) to every PR event you could imagine (and some you couldn’t).

What does this wealth of experience mean? I know what makes a great photograph, I was Deputy Picture Editor at The Western Morning News, and I know how to take a great photograph, as Simon Burt Photography clients attest.

Back in 2004 I took the leap and set up Simon Burt Photography. What a thrill it’s been! Focusing upon commercial photography, especially (but not exclusively) hospitality, I’m delighted to be one of just a handful of photographers servicing the needs of some truly dynamic and innovative minds in food, lifestyle and beyond.
Time and again, my clients come to me for engaging pictures that fulfil the specific needs of a brief. I’m easy to work with. I turn up on time, prepared and ready to go that extra mile in order to achieve what’s necessary.

When I work on a project, it becomes a journey to find shots that really deliver. Inspired by that first Box Brownie, delivering quality images has become the story of my life. Over the years, in many important ways, what I do hasn’t changed. Although, these days, I don’t need to charge off to Boots when I’m done!
