About Simon Burt Photography
I didn’t grow up wanting to be a photographer, I didn’t really have any idea about what I wanted to be, but since the first time I held a camera I have felt compelled to capture images.
My love affair with photography started as a boy, when my Dad gave me my first camera, a 1950s Box Brownie (a very old camera even then). I took pictures while on family holidays and eagerly waited for my images to be developed by Boots, just like everyone else.
Who would have predicted the changes in technology since those days!
After ten years as a Royal Marine, I spent some time with the Evening Herald in Plymouth learning how Newspaper Photographers could turn an every day event like a golden wedding anniversary or cheque presentation in to an interesting picture. There was the occasional hard news job too!
Freelancing for the local papers turned in to a Staff Photographers job, then Deputy Picture Editor at The Western Morning News.
Four years later I was back on the road with Apex Photo Agency who recruited me to cover their interests in Cornwall. I moved to Truro and spent seven years covering national news and features for Newspapers, Magazines and PR Companies.
Since 2004 my work has evolved in to the commercial world and most of my customers these days are connected with the hospitality industry (although not all). Most days are spent photographing interiors, food and lifestyle images for hotels and letting agencies as well as architects, estate agents and builders. I also shoot a limited number of weddings each year.
